Legislation and the Federation

[Southern Division at Advocacy Day]

Once a year members of the Federation don their Red Jackets and embark on a journey to the Legislative Halls of our State Capitol. We spend a day advocating and promoting Legislation which we support and have studied with our fulltime Legislative Advocate and Lobbyist and our Issues Chairwomen support.

Through our advocate's Weekly Update we are provided with constant monitoring of activities surrounding our State Capitol and of importance to the members of our federation.

As we proceed through the State Legislative Year many bills are worth studying and warrant further education. These are not necessarily bills and legislation on which we have taken a position as an organization but items that we continue to monitor.

Canvassing The Capitol, our Capitol Newsletter, gives more indepth analyzation of happenings around Sacramento.

At the division level we hear monthly, through our newsletter and at our division meetings, from our legislative chairs who study bills and issues and present a viewpoint. At the division level, we do not take positions but continue to provide the skills necessary for our membership and other interested persons to study and analyze political and elections activities and events.

CAP Alerts (national) and Action Alerts (state) are issued from the President and Executive committees and request our "alert teams" to forward their email or access their telephone tree so that our membership can voluntarily follow up with the appropriate elected official or Political committee.
