No Child Left Behind

The main thrust of President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush in advancing education in the United States is that "No Child Be Left Behind". Since becoming President education advancement has been a priority in his agenda. President Bush has called upon the citizenry to help in this endeavor. California Federation of Republican Women members have answered the President's call.

CFRW's "No Child Left Behind" Committee began in January, 2002. The Committee's goal is to establish projects within each Unit Club's community, projects that will assist in providing California's school children the best education possible. The latter is accomplished by having each Unit Club determine the educational needs of its community, and the degree to which the club can assist children within the schools or elsewhere. Especially successful has been directly approaching a school principal (or principals) in your Club's area. The Club decides both the amount of time and energy members wish to dedicate to its "No Child Left Behind" project, as well as the other project(s) to be undertaken.

Among the many committee projects of the past year, the emphasis has been on reading: the distribution of books, reaching out to children of need who do not have the luxury of books at home, as well as assisting schools directly, etc. Many members visit schools, working one on one with a child, helping to improve his reading skills. There are numerous ways to assist in the education of our children. The activities / projects are determined by your club members.

CFRW members participating in the "No Child Left Behind" Project are not only providing a great service to our children, but also to the image of the Republican Party. It demonstrates that Republican women do care about the education community. Teachers, Principals, and the community in general observe our community service --- a positive image for the Republican Party. Education is a bipartisan issue! Take pictures as well as submit articles detailing your "No Child Left Behind" activities to your local newspapers, radio programs, etc. When working within the schools, wear nametags with your name and that of your Unit Club, California Federation of Republican Women title (present this idea as a school safety requirement).

Last but not least, remember to insert the Laura Bush Bookplate (word file for 5164 labels) in all the books you distribute.

As we begin a new year of volunteer work on behalf of California school children, we welcome new Unit Clubs to this project. You have made such a contribution to California's school children the past year! Congratulations! We show our school children that Republican women once again will proceed with projects that will make sure "No Child is Left Behind".
